We had a lively and at times heated discussion Wednesday about violence in the city of St. Louis. Listeners called and texted with how they see the situation. Too many single moms. Too many deadbeat dads. Agree and agree.
But, this is information we know already. So we asked for solutions. A bad-kid attitude starts at home right? Bad parenting or no parenting at all. So the solution is better parenting right? Well, as is mostly the case, easier said than done. If you are on welfare, do you get a break on birth control? If you are a single mom truly trying to make a better life for your kids, are there government subsidies that are available?
Great; let’s give them food stamps and call it a cure. While we help the single moms who are struggling to make ends meet why not go after the "dads" who are walking around downtown STL in the middle of the day doing nothing but posing. You think you are a tough guy because you sell drugs and flip off cops as they drive by?
You want me to be impressed? Get a f***ing job and support your kids! If you think this is a "black thing," it most certainly is not. I worked downtown for many, many years. I drove through the projects back when there was projects. I have a black friend who lived in the projects. I was at his house in the projects many times. It’s not a black problem. It’s an attitude problem. Yes, I am blaming the dads here. The dads of every flipping color in and out of the rainbow!
"The world is full of guys Loyd, be a man.”
I have said it a million times: Got to have a license to drive a car, but not to be a parent. Thanks for reading these thoughts of mine. Now I want your thoughts.
