Recently on the show we discussed Alderman Marlene Davis’ proposed legislation that would ban people from sagging their pants in public. While many styles come and go this is one fashion statement that has been around for a while and does not seem to be going away anytime soon. I remember when I was in high school if you sagged your pants, our principal would pull out the Jethro rope and she gave students the choice, either wear the Jethro rope around your waist for the rest of the day with your shirt tucked in, or spend your entire Saturday in detention. Well most kids, especially athletes had games and other things to do on Saturday so needless to say there were a lot of people walking around my high school looking like they were straight out of the Beverley Hillbillies. While I must say this was hilarious, I’ve always had mixed feelings about the topic. No I do not want to see your boxers when you walk by. Jeff Burton says it should be my choice if I want to see a man’s underwear and I must say I agree. If a guy approaches me and his pants are down to his knees, I probably won’t take him seriously. But to enact a law banning a fashion statement? I’m with President Obama on this one: we have much bigger fish to fry.
