The Current State of St. Louis Sports

posted on
The current state of St. Louis sports, coupled with the spot on calendar, led me to try and find some perspective on the way the biggest stories in town are covered and portrayed by the local media. Both SLU basketball and the St. Louis Blues are enjoying potentially historically great seasons. The Blues have passed multiple markers that make this their best start in franchise history. While the Billikens are currently in the midst of their longest winning streak in program history. So why then,...

Projected Cardinals 2014 Line-Up

posted on
By: Brendan Wiese C-Yadier Molina: One of the two positions GM John Mozeliak said is "written in ink." Molina is the Cardinals most indispensable player, but it was fairly evident at the end of the season that Molina was getting worn down. Call it a combination of his knee injury, and receiving very few days off in the final month, despite recovering from injury. Make no mistake about it, Tony Cruz is a good back-up, the upper-brass just needs to do a better job of keeping Molina fr...

OBITUARY: 2013 CARDINALS CLUTCH HITTING

posted on
By Chris Gardner:   The 2013 St. Louis Cardinals opportunistic bats passed away late last night in Boston at the very young age of seven months.  Clutch hitting, as it was known to fans (but not sabermatricians), went without much of a fight while battling the Red Sox in the World Series for six games.  Producing a MLB record .330 average with runners in scoring position during the regular season, Clutch could only muster a .214 mark in the Fall Classic after batting .349 during...

The Best Cardinals World Series Team Since 2004

posted on
4)2006-A team that sneaked into the postseason by the skin of their teeth, the '06 Cardinals inexplicably won the city's first World Series crown since 1982. The theme of this team was simple: get healthy, get hot at the exact, same time. The bullpen was patchwork, but efficient. Jeff Weaver had the greatest two weeks of his career to compliment Chris Carpenter and Jeff Suppan atop the Cardinals rotation. The window was closing on the MV3's, but Albert was still great, and David Eckstein mad...

Top five worst spots fans

posted on
By: Brendan Wiese Earlier today on the Sports Show, Chris Gardner and I discussed some of the worst qualities in sports fans. I'm sure you have seen these types of sports fans, in bars, at the game, at church. Ok, maybe not at church. But these people are out there, and they're REALLY trying my patience.  Let us glaze over the list shall we? My top five worst spots fans, as heard on the Sports Show. 5) The Smart Ass- You know this guy, He's the guy eavesdropping on your...

Wiese's College Football Picks for Week 4

posted on
College Football Picks Week 4 LSU -17.5 vs. Auburn- I really like the Bayou Bengals in this battle of the SEC Tigers. LSU's defense is shaping up to be even better than Alabama's, and that's saying something. Pair that with the emergence of QB Zach Mettenberger under new OC Cam Cameron, and you have a team that should handle Auburn with little problem. I think Auburn will win 8 or 9 games this year, but this won't be one of them. Stanford -7 vs. ASU- I liked Sta...
